Morro Bay

Where Your Vacation Finds Safe Harbor

Just north of San Luis Obispo on the pristine Central Coast of California is the beautiful enclave of Morro Bay. Morro Bay is recognizable from miles around due to the giant, 580-foot high Morro Rock that sits at the mouth of its working harbor. The town of Morro Bay is part beachside town and part sophisticated artist community. Downtown, surf shops and seafood stands mix with artist galleries and fine eating establishments. Being at the start of the scenic section of California Highway 1, Morro Bay is far more than a place to stop along the way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. In fact, Morro Bay is rich in natural history and beautiful landscapes right next to a working fishing port and pleasant downtown. Further, Morro Bay is an excellent place to base your trip to Cambria and Hearst Castle to the north and Paso Robles wine country just inland.

Although there are endless things to do in Morro Bay, one thing that can’t be missed is a day spent along The Embarcadero. The Embarcadero is the main strip set along the harbor where all of the best shops, eateries and friendly folks can be found. Morro Bay’s famous restaurants and fish markets offer some of California’s best and freshest seafood, hauled in every day. Throughout the year, there are variety of events and festivals featuring everything from Holiday Dining by the Bay to the Crusin’ Morro Bay Car Show. Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless opportunities in Morro Bay that range from kayak trips in the bay to incredible hikes and nature walks. The lodging and hotel accommodations in Morro Bay include a wide range of options from quaint B&B’s to luxurious inns along the waterfront. An excellent option is the Anderson Inn, which is a boutique hotel that sits above the water and offers a perfect mix of contemporary sophistication with a casual California vibe.

Private Aircraft Charter to Morro Bay FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Morro Bay?

Although Morro Bay does not have an airport of its own, there are two excellent airports within a short drive from town. San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport – SBP is just 17 miles away along California’s scenic Highway 1. SBP airport is ideal for those who will be focusing their visit along the Central Coast. From SBP airport, Morro Bay is a about a 20-minute drive to the north. In addition to Morro Bay, SBP airport is perfectly situated for those planning on visiting the coastal communities of Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo and Los Osos. A second airport option is available for visitors to Morro Bay in the town of Paso Robles, which is just over 30-miles northeast of town. Paso Robles Municipal Airport – PRB – is a great choice for visits to both Morro Bay as well as San Luis Obispo County’s burgeoning wine country along its inland section. What’s best is that both San Luis Obispo Country Regional Airport and Paso Robles Municipal Airport have extensive runways and facilities that can comfortably accommodate everything from the smallest turboprop to the biggest long-range business jets.
