The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival happens every spring during late April and early May in New Orleans, LA. This festival celebrates New Orleans and the music and culture that comes with it. The festival itself showcases the best names in jazz on the main stage at the New Orleans Fairgrounds Race Course. Jazz Fest, as the entire week of events is know, includes hundreds of events at local nightclubs that are unaffiliated with the official event yet have just as much music from both lesser-known as well as famous musicians. And while the events main musical focus is jazz, there are performances spanning many genres that are present in Louisiana. These include R&B, blues, folk music, bluegrass, country, rap, Afro-Caribbean and much more.
Along with music at Jazz Fest, there are different attractions, crafts and foods that all focus on the culture and history of New Orleans. With an official rule of no carnival food stands at the festival, there is a huge array of strictly local vendors serving southern specialties to enjoy such as jambalaya, po’ boy sandwiches, alligator sausages and oyster patties. Along with amazing local food, set throughout the festival grounds are three areas of craft booths with items such as artwork, jewelry, baskets and clothing. Also unique about Jazz Fest is the amount of space set aside to showcase Louisiana’s cultural and history. The displays and performances portray Louisiana’s rich history from every part of the state a with a special focus on the Cajun and Los Isleños cultures.
With the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival being in a city that was made for fun and excitement, your time away from the festival will be just as memorable. Lined with bars and clubs, Bourbon Street, set in the cities French Quarter, is the oldest part of town and where visitors will find all-night music and drinks. The French Quarter is also where many of the best restaurants and hotels are in the city so you can have everything you need, all in one place. And don’t forget the rest of New Orleans where each part of the city has its own character all while still being uniquely New Orleans. And although you will be coming for the amazing music and food, Jazz Fest will immerse you in everything that New Orleans has to offer.
Private Aircraft Charter to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival FAQ
What do I need to think about when chartering to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival?
With Jazz Fest being in downtown New Orleans, getting to and from the event will be no problem at all with two excellent airports nearby. The aptly named Luis Armstrong International Airport – MSY, is just about 15-miles to the east of downtown and normally has a drive of only 20-minutes or so. Being a major international airport means that there is airline traffic so guests may contend with a little bit of traffic while going and coming. 10-miles away to the west is New Orleans Lakefront Airport – NEW. Lakefront Airport sees no airline traffic so guests will have less traffic and crowds to deal with while at NEW. Both airports have very long runways so arriving and departing in the largest jets will be no problem at all.
