USGA U.S. Open
Always exciting and well above par
The U.S. Open of Golf, formally known as the United States Open Championship, is the open national golf championship, held by the U.S. Golf Association. This year’s U.S. Open will be taking place at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, WI, just about 35-miles northwest of Milwaukee. The U.S. Open is the second of professional golfs four major championships taking place annually and is part of both the PGA Tour as well as the European Open. What makes this tournament unique as that it is at an unfamiliar course each year. This makes the game very challenging. So much so that the U.S. Open winner typically finishes near even par. Held in June each year with the finals always on Father’s Day Sunday, fans can expect near perfect weather and a perfect way to enjoy the beginning of summer.
Erin Hills Golf Course is relatively new, being opened 2006, and was designed by Michael John Hurdzan, the famous American golf course architect as well as designers Dana Fry and Ron Whitten. Erin Hills Golf Course has seen other top events and was the venue for U.S. Amateur Championships in 2011 and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in 2008. Erin Hills is kept in pristine condition due in part to being a “walking-only” course so there is no paving or paths for carts. It is of such high quality that it was rated as the 42nd greatest course overall as well as rating 8th best public golf course in the U.S. And although Erin, WI., is far from the major hotels in Milwaukee and Madison, Erin Hills Golf Course has an amazing lodge and beautiful lodges for your accommodations. Add to that The Irish Pub & Terrace and The Clubhouse for great drinks and dining and you have a complete destination at the 2017 U.S Open.
