Coachella Weekend 2
An unforgettable weekend of top musical acts and the best visual artists
Over two weekends during spring each year is the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA, in the Coachella Valley just east of Palm Springs. The main attractions of this festival are the musical guests that include many popular genres such as rock, hip hop, electronic dance music and indie. The event is set among the polo grounds with six different stages and performance areas all with non-stop live music and entertainment. Along with the music comes more visual forms of expression such as sculptures, art instillations and performances. And while Coachella has stacked lineups of major recording artists, it is also a showcase for new and up and coming artists and musicians.
Because Coachella is held over the three days during two consecutive weekends in April, each weekend of the event has the same artists but with slightly different vibes. Week one is more of a party atmosphere where people go to see and be seen, with many Hollywood stars and musicians attending. Week two, while equally impressive is a bit more mellow with the focus being more on the music and performances. On Friday 4/14, see Radiohead, the massive English rock band, American deejay Dillon Francis, and English band The xx. On Saturday, 4/15, superstar vocalist Lady Gaga, hip hop artist Gucci Mane and indie folk band Bon Iver all take the main stage. And on the final day of week one, Sunday 4/16, see the English pop group from the 80’s, New Order, vocalist Lorde and the EDM group, Justice. And keep in mind that these are just a few of the acts performing over week one of Coachella with dozens of other performers large and small.
Although Coachella is best-known for its musical performances, it is also a features sculptures, visual and instillation art, many of which are interactive. During the early years of Coachella, the art component of the festival was far less prominent than in recent years, Now, the size, scope and complexity of this aspect of the festival has grown into an event in its own right. Instillation art, where an area is altered into a three-dimensional work lets visitors experience the art as much as simply seeing it. Past art featured at Coachella have gone on to be shown at Art Basel and included creators like Cyclecide, Robochrist Industries and Emek. And while Coachella is about the art and music, it is really an unforgettable experience and destination in and of itself.
Private Aircraft Charter to Coachella Weekend 2 FAQ
What do I need to think about when chartering to Coachella Weekend 2?
Although Coachella is set away from urban areas in the Coachella Valley, it doesn’t mean that getting there will be difficult as there are three excellent airports in the area to serve your charter flight. Only 8-miles away and 15-minutes by car from Coachella is Bermuda Dunes Airport – UDD. While UDD airport is very close to the festival, its runway is on the shorter side so it is best suited for turboprops and light jets. If you will be coming in in larger jets, both Palm Springs International Airport – PSP, and Thermal Airport – TRM, have very long runways and can easily accept heavy jets. TRM is just about 10-miles to the north of the Empire Polo Club and has a drive that’s just about 20 minutes. Palm Springs International Airport – PSP, is a bit further away and sees a 45-minute drive over the 20 scenic miles. PSP is the best option for guests who will also be staying at the top resorts and hotels in Palm Springs and Palm Desert.
