New York City's "Party of the Year"

The Met Gala, known in the past as the "Costume Institute Gala", is the star-studded annual event that happens in New York City and raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Held each May, The Met Gala celebrates the Costume Institutes annual fashion exhibit’s grand opening and was created to help support the museums only self-funded department. This event draws so many celebrities that it has been called “The Party of the Year” as well as “the Oscars of the East Coast”. Each year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition is what sets the theme for the event as well as the style of the formal outfits worn by the attendees. While the final details and list of featured guests and artists have not yet been set for the 2022 edition of the Met Gala, it has been announced that the theme will be “An Anthology of Fashion”. This year will be a collaboration between the Metropolitan Museum of Art and “American film directors to create cinematic scenes within each room that depict a different history of American fashion".  

 Because of the amount of the well-to-do and famous people attending, the Met Gala is really one of the biggest social events of the years as well as the most influential. Those who attend include some of the top brass from music, film, fashion, arts and high-society and as such, it is the number one red carpet happening of the fashion industry. The styles and designs at this event really set the tone for the years coming fashions where they are photographed, reviewed and followed. The week of the Met Gala, parties and events take place all over Manhattan that are put on by some of fashions heaviest hitters such as Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan magazines. While much of the excitement culminates on the night of the Met Gala, it's really entire week of fun, fashion and celebrities.
