Sacramento

230 Days of Sunshine Each Year

California’s capitol city of Sacramento sits at the junction of the American and Sacramento Rivers in the northern part of the state. Founded in 1849, Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in California, giving it a rich history that reflects the state from its beginnings. Sacramento has traditionally been seen as a quiet town with a relaxed vibe and friendly people. Things have changed in recent years with a major revitalization of the downtown area, which has transformed it into a fresh and exciting place for a visit. Sacramento is the economic and social hub of the capitol region, so there is a wealth of great restaurants, shops, theatres and history. With warm summers and mild winters, Sacramento is full of outdoor action from professional sports to golfing and fishing. The Kings NBA Basketball team, Republic MLS Soccer team and River Cats AAA Baseball all call Sacramento home and have games throughout the year. Golfers will appreciate the 13 courses in and around town that take advantage of Sacramento’s geography with challenging bunkers and water features all set on flat land.

One of the most enjoyable and interesting parts of town is Old Sacramento, the National Historic Landmark District along the Sacramento River. This part of town is full of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The centerpiece of Old Sacramento is the Delta King paddleboat, which now houses a hotel, restaurants and two theatres. While it may not be famous for its food, the reality is that being right next to California’s farming region, Sacramento is now known as the “Farm to Table Capitol of America”. Having access to the freshest produce and ingredients, Sacramento is now a foodie haven, with everything from authentic ethnic food to high-end gourmet eateries. California’s Capitol building is right in the center of town and is a very interesting place to check out. The California State Capitol Museum offers tours of the capitol and legislative chambers as well as the historical offices. And when you are ready to retire for the day, there are several great hotels such as the Sacramento River Hotel by Westin and the historical Citizen Hotel.

Private Aircraft Charter to Sacramento FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Sacramento?

Sacramento International Airport – SMF, is the capitol region’s main airport for both commercial and charter flights. The runway is more than enough for every sized aircraft and the FBO provides top ground handling and passenger services. SMF is just over seven miles from downtown with a drive time of about 15-minutes. SMF sits right near Interstates 80 and 5, so there is very easy access to places like the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California’s Wine Country. Sacramento Executive Airport – SAC, is a second option for flights to the area. SAC is eight miles from downtown with a 15-minute drive. SAC is exclusively a general aviation airport, so there is less traffic and congestion than at SMF airport. Both airports have very long runways, so there are no restrictions on the size and class of business jets that can use them.
