Nothing Says Southern California Like Santa Monica

When people think about Southern California, things like sunny beaches, exciting boardwalks and fun in the sun come to mind. Filling this bill is Santa Monica, located on the Pacific Ocean and on the west side of Los Angeles. It is the classic beachside town and one that is a perfect place for a sunny California holiday. Santa Monica was originally established as a retreat by the sea in the early 1900’s that was known for its wooden pier and roller coaster. Through the 20th century, however, the small seaside town has grown into an eclectic beach city with young mix of professionals, surfers, artists and students. It is an excellent place for visitors to base their trip because there are tons of lodging, dining and entertainment options as well as being centrally located for visits to all Southern California beach towns.

While much of the L.A. Basin sees temperatures into the 90’s and 100’s during the summer, people flock to Santa Monica for 75-degree days and a relaxing vibe away from bustle of downtown LA. The centerpiece of Santa Monica is the Santa Monica Pier and Boardwalk. Over 100 years old, this classic amusement park has rides, games and everything one would expect in a classic seaside setting. Along Santa Monica Beach, the boardwalk is full of food and fun with eateries with beach fare, the Playland Arcade, live music and the famous Muscle Beach.

If you want some time away from the beach, Palisades Park is above the sandstone bluffs above the Pacific Ocean that showcases brilliant views of the ocean on one side and the golden Coastal Range on the other. Downtown Santa Monica is a shopping paradise with Montana Avenue and 3rd Street Promenade. Both feature local and national retailers as well as a wide array of eating and entertainment options. With some top accommodations like the Fairmont Santa Monica, Loew’s Santa Monica Beach Hotel and Le Merigot as well as long-term luxury rentals, you will be sure to be retiring from your day in opulence. Whether it is fun in the sun or a day filled with shopping and dining, Santa Monica is the perfect place for your Southern California vacation.

Private Aircraft Charter to Santa Monica FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Santa Monica?

Guests visiting Santa Monica enjoy the convenience of having three excellent airports available for their arrivals and departures. Santa Monica Airport – SMO, is easily the best place to start your visit to Santa Monica and its beaches. SMO is minutes away from downtown Santa Monica. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that SMO’s runway is shorter than those at larger airports, so it’s best for turboprops up through mid-size jets. Just 12 miles south of Santa Monica is Los Angeles International Airport, the region’s largest. While LAX is a major international airport, all general aviation takes place on the opposite end of the facility from the airline traffic, so traffic and crowds are relatively moderate. Van Nuys Airport - VNY – is 18 miles north of Santa Monica and is an airport made just for charter aviation. It has long enough runways for all sizes of aircraft, wonderful facilities and offers a far more exclusive experience than LAX.
