Escondido

A Small Slice of Heaven in Southern California

Just about 30-miles north of downtown San Diego, along the beautiful California shore is the coastal city of Escondido. One of the first and oldest cities in San Diego County, Escondido sits in the San Pasqual Valley. This region is perfect for beach holiday with nearly perfect weather throughout the year with warm summers and mild winters and just a little bit of rain. Because of this great climate and ideal growing conditions, Escondido was originally an agricultural community filled with vineyards and citrus orchards. Since then, most of the agricultural land has been developed into residential neighborhoods and a lively downtown area. With such a prime location on the California Coast, Escondido is an excellent place to base your trip to Southern California. With San Diego only 30 minutes to the south and Orange County and Los Angeles about an hour to the north, the entire region is easily reachable. And since Escondido is away from the major urban areas, there is quick access to outdoor activities.

Downtown Escondido has recently undergone a revitalization and renewal and is a great place to spend a day or two. A number of new shops, restaurants and galleries have been added along the historic Grand Avenue as well as outdoor cafes, antique shops and professional galleries. The centerpiece of downtown is the Mingei International Museum’s satellite location, which showcases folk arts and crafts from every corner of the world. The California Center for the Arts is located in Grape Day Park, just outside of the downtown area. The center features a museum of visual arts, two theatres and the Escondido Conference Center. When you want to get out and explore the area, San Diego and its attractions such as Sea World and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park both take about 30-45 minutes by car and will definitely provide a full day of wildlife viewing and interaction. And a little further to the north is Orange County and Los Angeles with their beaches, theme parks and excitement. It doesn’t matter what you come to Escondido for because you will always find days of fun and excitement right outside your door.

Private Aircraft Charter to Escondido FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Escondido?

Escondido has two airports nearby that are both great choices to service visitors’ charter flights to the region. The closest airport to Escondido is Mc Clellan-Palomar Airport – CRQ - which is just about a 30-minute drive away over 15 scenic miles. CRQ is also conveniently located for visits to Carlsbad, Oceanside and Rancho Santa Fe. And because CRQ sits right near Interstate 5, there is easy access to all of Southern California. If you do choose CRQ, keep in mind that its runway is best for aircraft up to mid-sized jets. Guests arriving in larger aircraft have San Diego International Airport – SAN – as an excellent option. SAN is about 30 miles to the south of Escondido and has drive times of around 35-40 minutes, depending on traffic. It’s a perfect airport for those also planning to visit San Diego, La Jolla and Coronado. As a major international airport, SAN is well equipped to handle and service all sizes and classes of charter jets.
