La Jolla

San Diego's Classy Cousin to the North

La Jolla, CA, is an upscale city in Southern California that, while technically in San Diego, is really considered to be its own city. Home to the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla has beautiful beaches, amazing scenery and a town filled with more than can fit in one visit. Sitting on seven miles of arching coastline on the Pacific, the city is surrounded by beaches and headlands on three sides and the lovely downtown on the fourth. With average temperatures in the 70’s throughout the year, La Jolla is never too hot or too cold. Although it sits in San Diego’s metropolitan area, outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the many options for some time under the warm California sun. La Jolla’s roots as an art colony mean that the town is filled with amazing galleries, working studios and has a vibrant art scene. With a unique mix of shops, hotels, eateries and fun things to do, downtown La Jolla is like having a small slice of San Diego without the crowds.

La Jolla is a stop on the PGA Tour at the iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course, and dropping in for a few rounds is an absolute must. For more time outside, guests will all enjoy a day or two on the popular stretch of sand at the beaches while relaxing in the sun and cooling off in the ocean. The Cove and La Jolla shores has snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Windandsea beach is a popular surfing spot that has board rentals and lessons for first-timers. Downtown La Jolla is highly regarded for its high-end restaurants, upscale shops, hotels and amazing jewelry stores. Major brands like Talbot’s and Ralph Lauren sit beside locally owned boutiques and galleries. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is in La Jolla and boasts a brilliant collection of American and European post-1950 art. Accommodations in La Jolla are second-to-none with luxurious vacation rental and independent luxury resorts including The Lodge at Torrey Pines and La Valencia Resort and Hotel.

Private Aircraft Charter to La Jolla FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to La Jolla?

La Jolla, being part of San Diego’s metropolitan region, means there are lots of airports nearby that are all great places to begin and end your visit to the area. Closest to La Jolla is Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport – MYF, at only 13 miles and about 25 minutes away by car. Aircraft size is a factor at MYF owing to its shorter runway, so it is best used for turboprops and very light jets. MYF is in northern San Diego and its location near five major highways gives it easy access to all of Southern California including Orange County, Los Angeles and Long Beach. Just a bit further away is San Diego International Airport – SAN - which has unlimited runways to accommodate all classes of aircraft. SAN is 14 miles from La Jolla over a scenic, 25-minute drive up the coast. To the north of La Jolla in the city of Carlsbad is Mc Clellan-Palomar Airport – CRQ. This airport also welcomes all sizes of jets and is a perfect choice if you will be also visiting Carlsbad and the northern reaches of San Diego County.
