Known as “The Biggest Little City in the World”, Reno is a place that was made for fun and excitement. Set in the northwest part of Nevada, Reno sits right at the base of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains and is just an hour from Lake Tahoe. It is best known as a gaming and entertainment town, much like Las Vegas, its counterpart in the south of the state. While the world-class casinos are still a big reason to visit, recent years have seen a transformation from a gaming town to a fun and eclectic vacation destination. Reno now is home to a thriving arts scene, annual festivals, museums with rich history and culture. And since it is just a short drive from Lake Tahoe, Reno serves as the base for endless summer and winter outdoor adventures and sports expeditions. The climate in Reno sees hot summer, cool winters and only about seven inches of rain per year.

As a classic gambling town, Reno has an old west vibe that makes for a fun gaming atmosphere. Harrah’s Reno is the first Harrah’s location, and it has everything to be expected from their locations, including full gaming, martini bar and their highly-reviewed steak House. Other casinos in downtown Reno include Atlantis, El Dorado, Circus Circus and many other fun locations. Reno is also well-known for being home to the Reno Championship Air Races. Each year in September, six classes of aircraft modified for racing compete in the skies above the Nevada desert. This is one of the last air races in the world and it is not to me missed. The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discover Museum is downtown and has 67,000 square feet of science exhibits, theatres and interactive experiences. For some outdoor fun, Idewild Park is right along the Truckee river and has spring and summer live events with vendors and food trucks.


Two airports are set in Reno that are both excellent places for visitors to begin their trip to the area. Reno / Tahoe International Airport – RNO – is the region’s main airport that serves both airlines and charter flights. It has more than enough runway for every size and class of business jets. RNO is just about 15 minutes away from downtown and all of the casinos, resorts and excitement. And being set right near Interstates 80 and 580 means that there is quick access to places like Lake Tahoe and Carson. Reno / Stead Airport – RTS – is a bit further from downtown Reno, however, drive times are only slightly longer. As an airport that sees no airline service, RTS provides guests with a more exclusive experience without all of the crowds and congestion that is common at commercial airports.
