Astoria

Oregon’s Diamond in the Rough

Sitting along the Columbia River where it meets the Pacific Ocean is the beautiful city of Astoria, OR. It was the first permanent settlement on the Pacific Ocean as well as the first post office west of the Rockies. As the end-point of the Lewis and Clarke expedition, Astoria is a place with a storied past and steeped in a rich history. From its past as a lumber and fishing town to its present as a cultural center for the region, Astoria brings a perfect blend of old and new. Downtown Astoria is a perfectly preserved historic district, filled with many of the town’s original buildings. It is a foodie haven, with everything from farm-to-table eateries to casual fish & chips shops. The thriving art scene supports a number of galleries and shops that feature locally created works with a strong focus on the stunning landscape. Outside of town is an outdoor lover’s dream, with forested mountains, deep valleys and wide meadows.

Guests who are in Astoria over the weekend must visit the amazing downtown farmers’ market. Growers from the region set up shop next to local artisans. There are live performances, local food stands and very friendly people. A fun thing to do in Astoria is hopping in the car and checking out the places around town that have been featured in films such as “The Goonies,” “Kindergarten Cop” and “Free Willy.” Beer fans will appreciate the thriving craft brew scene that Astoria is known for. At the PNW Brew Cup annual beer festival, brewers from the region line 7th and the Riverwalk to serve up 36 craft beers while guests enjoy local foods, live music and a festive atmosphere. Astoria is home to two links golf courses that are as challenging as they are picturesque. A great day trip outdoors is to follow the trail to the top of Saddle Mountain at 3,283 feet. The lodging in Astoria definitely matches the town’s relaxed and rustic vibe. The Rose River Inn is highly-recommended because of its luxurious rooms, excellent restaurant and a welcoming staff.

Private Aircraft Charter to Astoria FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Astoria?

The wonderful community of Astoria has the good fortune of being served by Astoria Regional Airport – AST – a lovely little airport set just a short drive from downtown. From AST, downtown Astoria is just a 15-minute drive over Youngs Bay and across the beautiful Youngs Bay Bridge. The nearby towns of Cannon Beach and Seaside are both a quick drive to the south and the southern portion of Washing State is just about 10 miles to the north. AST’s facilities and runways are more than enough to comfortably handle all sizes of charter jets, and there are excellent ground handling services to serve visitors’ flights to the region.
