Salem

Quintessentially Oregon

Set in Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley and halfway between Portland and Eugene is the city of Salem. Originally a farming community founded in the 1840’s, it has since grown into a proud state capitol with a rich history and endless things to do. The land around Salem and the Willamette Valley is simply stunning. Rolling hills, deep canyons and a network of pristine streams adorn the landscape to create a picture-perfect place for a relaxing holiday. On clear days, Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood and Washington State’s Cascade Range are within view, making Salem absolutely picturesque. Because Salem sits within the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge, there are endless opportunities for wildlife viewing, trail walks and nature hikes. At the Opal Creek Wilderness Area, guests can experience one of the only rain forests in North America. While there, guests can hike the many trails, take nature workshops and spend the night at one of the rustic campsites.

Downtown Salem is full of things to offer visitors, with restaurants, bars, shops and art galleries. The Reed Opera House in downtown Salem, which was recently transformed into a shopping center with local vendors is a pleasurable and relaxing place to spend an afternoon. Barkley’s Grill downtown has fresh seafood from the Oregon waters and produce from the area’s farms. For some locally brewed beers, McMenamins Thompson Brewery & Public Brewhouse has a huge selection of beer, wine and cocktails and a delicious menu. When you are looking to get out and above it all, Balloon Flying Service of Oregon takes guests high above the Willamette Valley, providing endless views of the coast, Cascade Mountains and beyond. In the evenings, retire to Salem’s premier accommodations, The Grand Hotel in Salem. This recently renovated hotel has 193 luxuriously appointed rooms & suites, a gourmet restaurant and an indoor pool & spa.

Private Aircraft Charter to Salem FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Salem?

Guests arriving and departing from Salem will find the experience easy and carefree with two airports serving the region. McNary Field Airport – SLE, is closest to Salem and has runways long enough for heavy jets. SLE is less than five miles from downtown Salem with just a 10-minute drive. SLE’s facilities are well-equipped to handle all sizes and classes of aircraft. A little bit further from Salem is McMinnville Airport – MMV, at just about 22 miles and 30-minutes by car. This airport is best for those wanting an airport that exclusively serves charter flights and avoids the crowds and traffic. The runway at MMV is slightly less-long so all but the biggest aircraft such as heavy jets can comfortably use the runway.
