Utah Redefined
The state of Utah is a glorious place, with towering, snow-covered mountains, red-rock valleys and wonderfully diverse and dynamic communities. While Salt Lake City is the best-known destination in the state, the city of Provo is an impressive city in its own right and one that’s perfect for a vacation. Bordered on its eastern edge by the magnificent mountains of the Wasatch Front and by Utah Lake at its west, Provo looks like something out of a post card. And it’s those same mountains that provide endless summer and winter outdoor adventures. It’s central location in Utah make give it easy access to all of the regions outdoor recreation areas and attractions. While Provo is a great base for outings, it is also an excellent place to spend some time with lots of museums, shopping and a young and friendly population. Brigham Young University calls Provo home and it brings a very young and exciting atmosphere to the city.
When visiting Provo, a beautiful place for an outdoor adventure is at Deer Creek Reservoir State Park. Set in the gorgeous Heber Valley, this perfect body of water is surrounded by tall mountains, rolling hills and abundant wildlife. While there, guests can enjoy year-round fishing, boating and wind surfing.
For some fun in the mountains, Sundance Mountain Resort, only 20 minutes away, is the home of downhill skiing and has over 5,000 acres of winter excitement. During the warmer months, guests can try out the zip lines, alpine slides and a massive network of hiking trails. For a more relaxed time outdoors, Provo is home to golf courses, including the nationally ranked Thanksgiving Point Golf Course. Back in town, BYU Performing Arts has productions throughout the year by BYU’s Ballroom Dance Company, Chamber Orchestra and Concert Band. At the Sundance Summer Theatre, guests can enjoy shows at the Eccles Stage Outdoor Theatre that include shows such as “Oklahoma!” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
Guests visiting Provo will find two nearby airports that are well-equipped to handle their charter flights to the region. Closest to downtown is Provo Municipal Airport – PVU – which has excellent facilities and more than enough runway for everything from heavy jets to small turboprops. At only 4 miles from Provo, the drive from PVU to downtown is never more than 10 minutes. PVU sits right on Interstate 15 so there is easy access to other Utah destinations such as Salt Lake City, Moab and Zion National Park. A second option is Heber City Airport – HCR – is about 28 miles to the southwest and right on the shore of Utah Lake. HCR is only a 20-minute drive away from Park City and the Sundance Resort. And just like PVU, Heber City Airport has long enough runways for all sizes of jets.
