Come to Concord for a "Grape" Time
Just 29 miles east of San Francisco is the welcoming town of Concord, CA. Its proximity to Oakland and San Francisco means that Concord has all that one would expect from the big city but without the crowds and traffic. What’s more, Concord sits just south of Sonoma County and the Napa Valley so, you are perfectly positioned to visit California’s wine country as well. Being set among the beautiful California hills, Concord has amazing open spaces including Mount Diablo and Mount Tamalpais. Getting to the area’s other cities is simple from Concord, with quick access to San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. And with Sonoma and Napa Counties just to the north, Concord is the perfect place to set off on day trip through California’s premier wine producing region. Golfers visiting Concord will be pleased to know that Diablo Creek Golf Course is right in town and has 18 challenging holes, a large practice green and a lighted driving range.
During the hot summers, stopping by Water World California with its waterslides, wave pool and relaxing cabanas is a great idea, especially with the kids. At Concord’s Sleep Train Pavilion, concerts, shows and events take place throughout the year. World-renowned artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Kelly Clarkson and Santana have all performed at this outdoor venue. Downtown Concord has a wonderful downtown that is lined with authentic ethnic eateries, local galleries and fun shops. Guests visiting Concord have two great airports to choose from with one right near town and the other in Marin County, near the town of Novato. Buchanan Field Airport – CCR - is just about one mile from downtown Concord and very close to Interstate 680 so locations such as San Francisco, Oakland and all of the East Bay are easily accessible. It has a runway of over 5,000 feet so there are no restrictions on the size and class of business jet that can use the airport. Gnoss Field Airport- DVO – is about 43 miles to the northwest of Concord with about an hour-long drive. Because DVO is in Marin County and in the North Bay, it is the perfect airport for guests will also be spending time in Northern California’s Wine Country in Sonoma and Napa Counties. DVO airport’s runway is a bit shorter than most so it is best for turboprops and very light jets.
