Pismo Beach

Sun, Sand and Clams

Pismo Beach, CA, just south of San Luis Obispo, is a popular beachside community set along a the 17-mile long Pismo State Beach. As expected from a shoreside community like Pismo Beach, life is centered around the surf and sand. Known as “The Clam Capital of the World” due to the delicious bivalve residents, Pismo Beach is a classic place with fun in the sun, quaint hotels, beachside hotels and some of the freshest seafood in the world. It is loved for its long and very wide stretch of sand along the blue Pacific Ocean. Even on the busiest days such as the 4th of July, there is always enough room for everyone. While the northern stretch of the beach is where the town is, the southern end sees a transformation into a more untouched and pristine environment. There, guests can enjoy the Pismo Dunes and eucalyptus forest to which thousands of monarch butterflies migrate each year. Viewing so many of the often-elusive monarch butterfly is absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable.

A great way to experience Pismo Beach is from its long wooden pier than extends past the waves and far into the Pacific Ocean. It is full of fisherman pulling in their bounty, surfers cutting through the waves and the sun dipping below the horizon when night falls. If you are in town during October, the Pismo Beach Clam Festival features a clam chowder competition, parade and food trucks serving clams served in a variety of ways. And if you like seafood, Pismo Beach has dozens of amazing restaurants, all serving amazingly fresh fish caught right off the coast. Staying in Pismo Beach means that even your accommodations will follow the seaside feel of the area. An excellent option for your lodging is the luxurious Dolphin Bay Resort and Spa, which sits just feet from the ocean. Guests can enjoy rooms with views of the rugged coast, a luxurious spa, and a gourmet restaurant serving locally sourced produce. With so much to do and enjoy, it’s clear that Pismo Beach is a classic California coastal retreat and a perfect place for a getaway.

Private Aircraft Charter to Pismo Beach FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Pismo Beach?

San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport - SBP - is just about 15-miles to the north of Pismo Beach in the town of San Luis Obispo. The airport has long runways that can serve all classes of jets and has excellent FBO services to assist with your charter flight. SBP is only about five minutes from downtown SLO so it’s a great place to start a visit to the entire Central Coast including places like Monterey, Paso Robles and Morro Bay. For those arriving in turboprops, a fun option is Oceano County Airport – L52. Although the runway is usable for propeller drive aircraft, the approach over the ocean with brilliant views combined with it being only three miles from Pismo Beach make it a great option. For guests coming from the south, Santa Maria Public Airport – SMX, is just about 20 minutes by car and has facilities for all classes of aircraft. SMX is in northern Santa Barbara County so it is a great airport for guests who also might visit Santa Barbara’s and Santa Maria’s beaches and wine growing regions.
