Santa Maria

The Coast With the Most

Santa Maria is a lovely town on California’s Central Coast and just north of Santa Barbara. It’s central location to many nearby attractions and natural beauty make it a perfect starting point for visits to the area. On top of that, the town of Santa Maria has so much to see and do that it is a great place to visit on its own. Being set in coastal California, Santa Maria is known for its growing wine industry as well as being dubbed, “The West’s Best BBQ Town”, by Sunset Magazine as it’s the home of tri-tip steak. At just 30 miles north the Santa Ynez Valley and 30 miles south of San Luis Obispo, it makes sense that Santa Maria has an exciting wine culture. What’s more is that Santa Maria has its own budding wine industry with producers like Costa de Oro Winery and Cambria Estate Winery calling the town home.

Just south of Santa Maria is the charming locale of Solvang. Set in the styling of a small Danish town, Solvang has shops, restaurants and a summer outdoor theatre. For golfers, there are several golf resorts nearby including The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort. This 1000-acre ranch has two 18-hole golf courses, a pool, spa, tennis courts as well as luxury accommodations and regional fine-dining. Solvang is also proud of its own wine industry with more than 100 wineries near Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley. The valley is home to wineries such as Foley Estates & Winery and Lucas & Lewellin Vineyards Tasting Room.

For some outdoor adventures, Oso Flaco Lake has a boardwalk, paved and trail walks and untouched wooded area. It is a great place to relax, explore and enjoy a picnic. Also for the outdoorsy type are the Nipomo Dunes, which happen to be the second largest dune system in California. Take group or individual hikes, check out the visitor’s center and learn about this amazing environment and wildlife. Back in town, Santa Maria has a rich arts scene with The Santa Maria Symphony Orchestra and the Pacific Conservator of the Performing Arts calling Santa Maria home. And for an exciting night out, The Santa Maria Speedway and its clay track of 1/3 mile has seasonal racing of stock and sprint cars. With so much to do and see, it doesn’t matter what your tastes are as Santa Maria has something for everyone.
