A Thousand Oaks and Even More to Do
Just north of Los Angeles, in the eastern portion of Ventura County and at the center of the Conejo Valley is the city of Thousand Oaks. Named after the native oak trees that provide shade for much of the region, Thousand Oaks is a great place to visit as well as one to visit various parts of Southern California from. With Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego to the south and the Santa Barbara County communities north of town, guests can easily access endless attractions from Thousand Oaks. In addition, the city of Thousand Oaks and the area around it have a whole lot to enjoy as well. Being set a bit inland from the coast, Thousand Oaks has a Mediterranean climate with fairly warm summers and winters that are mild.
Ranked as the fourth safest city with 100,000 residents, Thousand Oaks provides has a classic, easy-going California vibe. With such a beautiful landscape and great weather, getting outdoors in Thousand Oaks is always a great idea. The Santa Monica Mountains National Park is unique in that it is one that has both mountains and beaches. Known as “Los Angeles’ Backyard”, The Santa Monica National Park is a great place to hike, mountain bike and view the scenery. And camping is available for those who want a night or two under the stars. If shopping is what you are looking for, Thousand Oaks has more than enough to satisfy. The Oaks Mall, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks and Janss Marketplace all have major retailers along with smaller shops, various dining options and movie theatres. While Thousand Oaks is not directly on the beach, Malibu Beach is only about a 25-minute drive away and is a perfect day trip to the coast. On that point, when the day is done, Malibu is just over eight miles away and is where you will find the best four and five-star hotels to round out your perfect vacation in Thousand Oaks.
Although there are no airports in the city of Thousand Oaks, three airports are located in the immediate area. Closest to Thousand Oaks is Camarillo Airport – CMA - which has more than enough runway for all classes of aircraft and great ground handling facilities. CMA is only about 10 miles away, so drive times are just about 15-minutes long. A bit further away is Oxnard Airport – OXR- which is ideal for guests who will be visiting the coastal communities and beaches near Thousand Oaks. The runway is shorter than most, so it is best for turboprops and light jets. Van Nuys Airport – VNY – is the region’s largest airport for charter flights, and it is perfectly positioned for guests visiting the entire L.A. Basin. And with very long runways and multiple ground handling facilities, VNY is well-suited to accommodate the largest jets.
