Big Sky

Your Gateway to the American West

Big Sky is set in the southwestern part of Montana in between Yellowstone National Park and the city of Bozeman. As an unincorporated community that sits between two counties, Big Sky is does not have its own government and isn’t considered a town. Big Sky was originally a ranch that was owned by a local newscaster who eventually decided to build it into a mountain resort. Composed of three sections – the Mountain, Meadow and Canyon areas - each has unique landscapes and experiences for visitors. Up in the Mountain area is where Big Sky Resort is located. Now made up of Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin, the Mountain area has year-round fun with incredible winter and summer sports. Down in the Meadow section there are endless streams, rivers and ponds with amazing freshwater fishing. Along the Gallatin River is the Canyon area, which is world-famous among kayakers and whitewater rafters. And with trails that crisscross the entire region, Big Sky really lives up to its reputation as a top destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

What really draws visitors and residents alike to Big Sky, however, is the unbeatable skiing and the wonderful resorts. Spread over four mountains, Big Sky boasts more than 5,800 acres of skiing at over 4350 feet in elevation and an award-winning cross-country trail structure. All in the style and tone of the of the American frontier, Big Sky offers everything that touches each aspects of your holiday. Features such as luxurious, yet rustic resorts, top dining options and relaxing day spas all find their place right besides ranches and farms. And not to forget the regions crown jewel, Yellowstone National Park. With more wildlife, geothermic features and postcard worthy scenes that anywhere else, no visit to Big Sky is complete without checking out Yellowstone. Complete with more adventure, beauty and luxury than anywhere else, Big Sky is rustic luxury, perfected.

Private Aircraft Charter to Big Sky FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Big Sky?

Visitors to Big Sky will love the fact that there is a great little airport serving the region. Ennis – Big Sky Airport – EKS, is about 20-miles from Big Sky, as the crow flies, however, with the mountains separating the two, the drive is about 90-miles and takes under two hours by car. Not to worry, though, because those 90-miles are some of the most stunning and scenic in the west. And with a runway well over a mile long, heavy jets can comfortably use the airport. And what’s best is that because there is no airline service at EKS, guests can relax knowing that there is very little traffic and congestion. The other option for you charter flights arrival is Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport – BZN, a bit further away but due to flatter terrain the drive is just about one hour. BZN does have commercial passengers so access to the airport can be a bit busier with more crowds and traffic.
