Mendocino

California's Lost Coast

North of San Francisco on California's coast is beautiful Mendocino County. It is a place where the sea and land meet to create a destination that is part unspoiled wilderness and part urban sophistication. It is set on California’s “Lost Coast”, which is the undeveloped coastline that stretches from Humboldt to Mendocino County. Unlike the crowded and busy communities to the south, visitors come to Mendocino for its relaxed and low-key vibe. Much like the neighboring Napa and Sonoma Counties, Mendocino is what one would expect in Northern California but in a wonderfully understated fashion. Indeed, there are incredible wineries, gourmet restaurants and a thriving arts community. What is different, however, is that Mendocino has managed to fly under compared to Napa and Sonoma. It’s unspoiled coastline, pristine mountains and comfortable climate give it an environment that draws visitors to its outdoors. The regional and state parks offer visitors some of the challenging mountain bike rides, scenic hikes and relaxing walks along the rocky coastline.

Mendocino County is home to one of the state’s most climatically diverse regions for growing grapes that has a strong focus on organic growing. As the first GMO-free county in the United States, its commitment to organic vinticulture has made it “California’s Organic Wine Mecca”. The region is full of wineries and vineyards that all open their doors to offer tastings, classes and wines for purchase. Mendocino’s diverse history and people bring with it some great festivals and events throughout the year. Each March, the town celebrates the annual migration of over 20,000 grey whales that can be seen from the coast with the Mendocino Whale Festival. During this week, there are chowder, beer and wine tastings, concerts. The accommodations in Mendocino are exactly what is to be expected with luxurious B&B’s, quaint inns and wonderful weekend rentals. Sitting right on the rugged coastline is the Sea Ranch Lodge, which features luxurious rooms with ocean views and a patio, California king beds and a cozy fireplace.

Private Aircraft Charter to Mendocino FAQ

What do I need to think about when chartering to Mendocino?

Guests heading to Mendocino have two excellent airports to serve their charter flights. Closest to downtown Mendocino is Little River Airport – LRR – which is only 6-miles and a 10-minute drive away. LRR’s runway is 5,249 feet long, so it can comfortably accommodate all sizes and classes of business jets. It is conveniently located for those also heading to Northern California’s Lost Coast and Wine Country. A second airport option is available to the south in Santa Rosa at Sonoma County Airport – STS. STS airport sits about 55-miles from the town of Ukiah in southern Mendocino County and about 90-miles from the town of Mendocino in the norther side of the county. Along with Sonoma and Napa Counties, STS airport is conveniently located for guests visiting San Francisco and the East Bay. And much like LRR airport, STS has more than enough runways for everything from turboprops to long-range heavy jets.
